How the Showdown Squad Building Challenges work in FIFA 22

Almost two years ago, EA Sports introduced Showdown Squad Building Challenges (SBC) into the FIFA franchise and Football Ultimate Team. These special challenges were intended to highlight major football matches from around the world and offer players the opportunity to acquire more information items for players who have the option of a second update. Showdown Challenges are back for FIFA 22, and in case you're not familiar with the concept, we're here to help.

As mentioned above, these kinds of challenges have been present in FIFA in previous games. In fact, Showdown Challenges have been added again in FIFA 20, during the later stages of that game's life cycle.

Here's how these challenges work. At various times throughout the year, EA Sports and the FIFA team will release special SBCs that revolve around a particular match. These matches are usually highly anticipated, such as UEFA Champions League matches or major league rivalry matches.

For Showdown SBCs, players will be able to get two informed players, one for each team in the highlighted match. In any case, players will have to complete the lineups for that particular player, to receive the card.

This is where things get a little complex. Those players receive an initial upgrade from their base item, but are eligible for a second upgrade, depending on the outcome of the match. The player on the winning team will receive a +2 OVR stat boost. The player who lost will not receive a stat boost.

If, however, there is a tie in the match, both players will not be excluded from any rating increases. In the event of a tie, both objects will receive a +1 GEN stat boost.
