Sea of Thieves: The boats

At the launch of the game we are faced with 2 types of boats, with 2 and 4 players. In the first case the ships are of small caliber, much faster in movement but limited and less resistant to damage, in the second case we find ourselves on board massive ships, aimed at a complete crew.

If you are playing with a friend, we recommend that you select the first boat, but if you have a complete crew, you can rely on the second. Ships are selectable from the main menu in the form of modes.

The ships are infinite, which means that when they are destroyed, you can request a second one and so on. Just interact with the Siren at sea. If you're wondering, no, you can't have your own, fully customizable ship, at least until you've achieved Legendary Pirate status.

All Legendary Pirates have the right not only to have their own boat, which can be customized according to the captain's tastes, but also to access more important as well as difficult missions and events, able to reward the crew in the best possible way. we will talk later.

On board the boats the crew must work to survive at sea, there are various tasks that a good captain can and must assign to his crew. There are those who take care of the sails, those of the nautical charts, those who manage the sailing ship and those who warn the crew in case of dangers, treasures and much more, and let's not forget the cannons, those that are important.

Deposits and Withdrawals

Each boat has a hold where you can retrieve or deposit:

  • Wooden boards: Essential for repairing a ship that takes on water
  • banana: Essential to restore your vital bar
  • Cannonballs: Essential for loading guns

You can also find on board the tasty GROG, which has no real function, apart from getting the pirate drunk. Each cited element can be recovered within:

  • Floating and abandoned barrels
  • Barrels present on the explorable islands
  • Barrels aboard rival boats or wrecks

Once you have recovered a certain number of bananas, cannonballs and wooden planks, you can either keep them in the pirate's inventory, to use them as needed, or to reload your boat. If you want to repair the ship in case of shocks or blows, heal your wounds or have ammunition to start a discussion with an opposing crew, then make sure you recover the above and deposit it in the hold.

To deposit the collected material, first of all select it from the pirate's inventory, then approach the appropriate barrel and press Y (if you use the controller), with X instead add the item to the inventory, taking it from the barrel.

Nautical charts

As anticipated in our previous one Guide, there are basically 3 types of missions, and in each of them you will have maps to consult and compare with the nautical charts present on board the ship.

In the Missions Merchant's Alliance you will have to explore random islands, looking for spices and other precious goods to sell on the island described on the map provided, within a certain time, in theOrder of Souls you will have to reach the islands indicated on the maps and eliminate the pirates, taking their skulls and selling them at one of the many outposts, in the missions Gold Hunter, you will have to locate the island present on the map provided, on the nautical charts of the boat, and then reach it and dig on the indicated point to find the treasure, to be sold at one of the many outposts.

How do nautical charts work on board the ship? First of all go to them, you can find them on the table in the hold, once interacted with the X button (if you use the controller), you can move and zoom, having a general overview of all the islands and outposts in the game.

In the case of treasures you are not told the name of the islands, so you will have to rely on the design of the same, to identify them on the nautical charts. Then select them from your inventory (with mission active), observe it carefully, then interact with the nautical charts on the boat and search for it. Once you have found the island, you can highlight it, in this way it will be easier for those who take care of the route, to provide precise instructions to the captain.

For the Order of Souls missions you are given the name of the island, so you can't go wrong and the same goes for the Merchant's Alliance missions.

Obtain, Propose and Vote a mission

The missions mentioned can be obtained (initially for free, later for a fee) at the merchants you find on the outposts. The sinister golden individual will provide you with the Gold Hunter missions, the Medium with the crystal ball provides you with the Order of Souls missions, while the Merchant Alliance missions can be found near the dock.

The first missions are FREE, every time you complete them, you receive both money and reputation. Some missions will require a certain level of reputation. Once you have obtained the missions, go to the boat and approach the captain's desk, which you find in the cabin.

Press the indicated key to choose the missions you have withdrawn and propose them on the desk, after which vote them with X (if you use the controller) and wait for the other players to do the same, if everyone will vote for the mission you proposed, or at least majority, it will become active and you can consult it through the inventory.

If you have picked up a mission that you no longer want to complete, just activate it as described and then cancel it. You can accept up to a maximum of 3 missions at a time.

Repairing a ship and loading (or launching from) guns

You will often be on board water due to the following reasons:

  • Storm
  • Hits suffered by the opposing guns or hits near the rocks
  • Trunks crying
  • Attack of the Kaken

In the first case, sailing in stormy waters is not always a good solution, so if you are heading for a storm, turn around as soon as possible. In the second case, sometimes it happens to have naval clashes with other boats, it is good to equip yourself not only with cannons but also with boards for repairing the leaks and in the third and last case, you will find some crying Trunks, we advise you to deliver them as soon as possible.

To load a cannon is very simple, take a ball, approach the cannon and load it, you can use the cannon both to shoot shots at your opponents and to launch yourself from it, the latter action useful to quickly reach the island. If you want to do this, make sure you unload the cannon, then go inside and FIRE!

To repair the ship instead, equip yourself with a board, approach the hole in the hold and hold down the indicated button, until you have successfully repaired the hole. Of course, it is not enough to fill the holes, you will also have to empty the water on board the ship, so select the bucket from your inventory, take the water and throw it outside the boat.

Sails, Rudder and Anchor

The sails can be both hoisted and directed, you can therefore raise or lower them and choose the direction, these are not operations to be done at random but you have to keep in mind the direction of the wind.

Let's start from the premise that a boat with retracted sails does not start, for this reason, after having raised the anchor, hoist the sails to move and choose the direction of the same, depending on the wind, using the sails you can set the speed of the boat while with the rudder the direction of the same.

Interacting with the anchor allows you not only to stop the ship but also to turn it quickly, in case you need to make a turnaround. There are 4 controls for the sails, 2 for the direction and 2 for hoisting or retracting them.

The anchor can be thrown overboard quickly but to quickly withdraw it, it is advisable to have 2 or 3 crew members.
