With each FIFA cycle, EA Sports adds new icons to FIFA Ultimate Team. These are the player cards of some of football's most iconic stars. In FIFA 21, fans have had a large influx of players, including Ferenc Puskas, Xavi, Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o and Eric Cantona. Then, mid-season, EA Sports added David Beckham to the mix. With FIFA 22, EA will only release four new icons to kick off the season, but we may see them add more like Beckham later in the year. So far, EA has only announced three of the four, but they're all big names that will thrill fans.
The first Icon announced is Dutch striker Robin Van Persie. The base icon of him reaches 87 JAN, while half of him is 89 JAN and the first of him is 91 JAN. It's hard to say for sure until we have the game in our hands, but it looks like it might disappoint some fans with its low-end pace. That said, for Arsenal fans, the thought of putting him and Thierry Henry on top must make their mouth water.
Next up is Iker Casillas, who has garrisoned Real Madrid's goalposts for 16 years. Considering one of the greatest goalkeepers in football history, the inclusion of the Spaniard is hardly surprising. His basic card also starts from 87 JAN before moving to 89 JAN for his average and then to 92 JAN for his first one. Goalkeepers are always weird in FIFA so it's hard to say how effective it will be, but having those Icon links between sticks is always helpful.
The last new icon we know is the Brazilian Cafu. There have been rumors for years of the two-time World Cup winner. His basic card fits as a right back of 88 JAN, while half of him is at 90 JAN and his maximum is 93 JAN. He has a high-level pace to compete with fast wings and has excellent stats in everything but shooting. If you can get him into your club, you'll be sitting nice for quite a while.
EA Sports hasn't revealed when it will announce the fourth and final icon coming to FIFA 22. The game will launch on October 1st, so fans shouldn't wait too long to see who it is. We personally keep our fingers crossed for Zico, but two Brazilians in such a small group may be asking too much.
