Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - Night Mode Maps and What We Know

The new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game has been launched and players are eager to go through the game's many multiplayer modes. They are the real highlight of the franchise's history, with iconic maps, killstreaks and weapons. A new direct aspect to this year's game was the night mode maps. These maps would have been entirely in the dark, forcing players to rely on night vision goggles and stealth tactics. Right now, I'm not in the game. Here's what we know about them and when we can expect them.

The night map modes would be in the main rotation of the game. They were going to existing map models in the game, expecting them to take place in the middle of the night. These modes forced players to use different tactics they would usually do during the day, for example by ensuring they have night vision and special attacks on their weapons.

However, for those who have been looking forward to switching to night mode, they are not in the game right now. Infinity Ward, at the last minute before the game's official launch, removed the maps from the rotation. They haven't provided any reasoning for this, but don't be too disheartened. In an official Tweet, Infinity Ward explained what they had in the works.

We are rolling out an update that removes all night maps from rotation. We will add them again as separate playlists at a later time. We are also removing the minimap from all hardcore modes. #ModernWarfare

While out of the game now, the Night Mode maps will return to the main game on an unknown date. They will receive a unique playlist for players who want to browse them. They will not play together with other daytime maps.

Why would Infinity Ward do this? It is likely due to the player feedback they received when Modern Warfare Beta came out. Many of the players who entered the beta were playing maps in night mode along with daytime ones. The two maps play differently, with players using different guns, weapons, and equipment in night mode than they would during the day.

Right now, we don't know when we expect to see the Night Mode maps return to the game. Infinity Ward is probably taking another look at these maps, rebalancing them and trying to find a good time to put them back into play. Again, when they return, they will have a separate playlist. So when you see them in a new series of patch notes, be sure to pack your exclusive loadout to fight in the dark.

Good luck out there Call of Duty fans.
