God of War Guide: What You Need to Know

God of War: Our recommendations

If you come from the previous chapters, put them on the back burner, because this new title in the series is very different from those we have been used to. For the first time we are faced with a respectable Free Roaming, where exploration is king and the generous presence of secondary activities, collectibles and chests, brings the longevity of the title to 40 or more hours.

Here are our tips:

  • Do not complete the game in a hurry, there are so many locations to explore, mysteries to discover, chests to open and more, so make sure to explore the whole scenario around you, before continuing with the story
  • Do not neglect the missions or secondary activities that are assigned to you by the various characters you will meet during the adventure, you could receive great benefits from them, such as items for equipment and various types of upgrades
  • Make sure to open all the chests you encounter, which are divided into different types, from the classic trunks to more elaborate chests, which will require the solving of puzzles for opening, inside them you will find various types of objects, from talismans to fragments that once united, they allow you to expand your life and anger bar
  • Some chests are initially inaccessible due to a lack of a power or ability, don't worry, you can always come back to them later
  • Make sure you break every object you come across, from vases to seemingly insignificant chests, you may find inside them useful items beyond the money you can use for purchases.
  • When you meet a vendor, make sure you interact with him, selling superfluous things and buying and upgrading equipment, we advise you to keep an eye on the statistics on the right, choosing the ones that best suit your style.
  • Not only upgrade the ax but make sure you also buy skills for the bow, it could come in handy during multiple encounters
  • Do not forget to assign settings to armor components, runestones that can give the equipment improvements of various kinds
  • Each runestone has different characteristics, be sure to consult the chart, choosing the one that best suits your style of play
  • The shields unfortunately do not have unique skills or specifications, therefore being a purely aesthetic matter, the choice of the style you prefer to use is up to you
  • Through the Objectives tab you can keep under control all the activities completed and to be carried out, make sure not to leave out anything, by doing so you will not only receive the necessary experience to buy new skills but also useful resources to improve the equipment
  • The game map is extremely generous in terms of size, unlock and use the teleporters to move quickly from area to area
  • If you often lose your life against a group of enemies or bosses, before lowering the difficulty, we advise you to resort to throwing the ax and its call to hit opponents from a distance, it will take longer to take them down, but at least you can attack them from a distance
  • Kratos can resurrect, as long as you have the Resurrection Stone, which can be purchased from merchants, be sure to do so as it may come in handy
  • When you eliminate enemies, they will drop items useful for restoring the life bar or rage as well as runestones and more, approach them and press O to collect them
  • When you face more enemies, equip yourself with the shield, you will be able not only to parry the opponent's blows but also to counterattack or use the skills and runestones assigned
  • The ax can be used not only in combat but also to solve puzzles, throwing it at a light activator, you could open secret passages and access normally inaccessible areas, once you enter, do not forget to call the ax to you with the Triangle
  • If you face challenging fights, wait for the anger to be charged, then press the 2 analog sticks simultaneously to activate it and unleash on the enemies with all your ferocity, but beware, the anger will initially have a reduced duration
  • As you progress through the storyline, you will unlock the compass at Fallout , which could be useful to guide you in the game, be sure to consult it
  • Like any self-respecting game, even in God of War there are 2 modes for saving progress, automatic and manual, for the latter option just press Options on the controller and then Triangle, finally X on save and on the slot you want to use
