What are Vanguards and Crucible Boon in Destiny 2?

Guardians in Destiny 2 have been drowned in Legendary Shards since the game was released. Bungie's latest update added several ways Guardians can spend it. Instead of filling your inventory and getting all dusty, you can now purchase Vanguard or Crucible Boon from Commander Zavala and Lord Shaxx respectively.

What are gifts?

There are two types of perks: Vanguard and Crucible. These are consumable items that you use during Strike or Crucible encounters. Commander Zavala sells the Gift of the Vanguard for 10 Legendary Shards and Lord Shaxx sells the Gift of the Crucible for 25 Legendary Shards. Each player can only use one consumable per activity, but other players can also use their consumable during the same match. You can receive a maximum of four gifts per activity.

How to use Boons

Upon use, a Gift Giver effect becomes active in your inventory. You will know if others in your business are using the Benefits because you will receive a Gift Receiver effect.

Gifts as gifts

After an activity you have the Gift Receiver effect, you will receive a Vanguard token gift or a Crucible token gift. These are consumable items that transform into packs of tokens, which you can redeem for reputation or purchase items from Commander Zavala or Lord Shaxx.

Legendary sparkling legends

Tess Everis of Eververse sells a legendary version of these gifts for Bright Dust. She can purchase the Gleaming Boon of the Vanguard for 150 and the Gleaming Boon of the Crucible for 500. These items work the same way as the other versions, but reward players with an Eververse Shader Pack.
