Which free 4-star Liyue character should you choose in the Genshin Impact Stand By Me event?

The Stand By Me event will arrive after Update 2.4 in Genshin Impact, giving players the option to choose their own 4-star Liyue character as a reward. It's the first time the game will allow this type of agency over a reward, so you'll want to make the most of it. The event will start on February 18th, so if you make up your mind now, you'll have plenty of time to gather the resources and materials your character will need.

If you are wondering who you should choose, in this article we will look at some important things you should consider when making your choice. If you're not sure what the character pool will be, you can find all 4-star Liyue characters listed below:

  • Beidou
  • chongyun
  • ningguang
  • yunjin
  • yanfei
  • Xiangling
  • Xing Qiu
  • xinyan

A new character or a new constellation?

The first thing to decide is whether you need a new character or a new constellation to unlock for a character you already own. If you are missing an important element, a new character is the way to go. If you are well covered for element types but have a strong character that is on the verge of a major push if they can unlock another constellation, then this is the way to go. Following the constellation path would also mean you don't have to worry about farming weapons, resources, and artifacts for the new character.

Consider the synergies

While many people might dismiss a character like Beidou, people who play Childe as their DPS might be very interested in the interplay between Beidou's elemental blast and Childle's elemental ability. While heavy hydro damage is nice, it's also much better to electrocute everything around you at the same time.

Xinqiu can fit into almost any team by bringing awesome elemental reactions and extra tankness with him. If you lack some much needed protection, then perhaps Ningguang will be faster, but it will also bring impressive ranged damage to your party. You have to think about what you need and why you need it, and then make a decision from there. Can you easily fit one of these characters into your existing party? Then do it.

Common consent

While this isn't something you should strictly adhere to, new players may be interested in a simple tier list. In the most basic sense of the word, ignoring things like build experimentation, constellation levels, and some of the more advanced theories people come up with, a character tier list would look something like this.

  • Xingqiu – Livello S
  • Ningguang - One level
  • Yanfei - One level
  • Xiangling - One level
  • Beidou - B - Level
  • Chongyun - Level B
  • Xinyan – Livello B

Yunjin is an interesting option that is difficult to evaluate, as it will only be added to the game in the upcoming 2.4 update.

The problem with this is that a character's true power in Genshin Impact really is about who you make him go to a party with. Chongyun might be considered a level B, but in a team with Bennett, Beidou and Xingqiu you can do amazing things. In fact, you can never really delete a character in the game, as the right party setup could really allow it to shine. Except Amber. Sorry, Amber.

Personally, I've had pretty solid luck with my wishes in all areas except Geo fonts. I intend to go to Ningguang and then use the Keqing Banner to try and unlock many constellations for her. I originally planned to skip the banners for 1.3 and just rack up my Primogems and Fates.
