Can you breed Legendary Pokemon in Sword and Shield?

As the name suggests, Legendary Pokemon (collectively referred to as "Legendary") are the most famous and powerful creatures within the Pokemon universe. Of course, that makes them highly sought after in Nintendo's long line of games, with the latest installments, Pokemon Sword and Shield, being no exception. Most players try to make their group of Pokemon the most dominant around, as well as treat themselves to some ammo for trades made online or locally. This makes a common recurring question: Can you breed Legendary Pokemon in Sword and Shield? Here's what you need to know.

Can you breed Legendary Pokemon in Sword and Shield?

You may have spotted a Pokemon nursery or two during your adventures in the Galar region. These facilities will take care of a couple of your captured Pokemon, which, provided the two are compatible, can lead to the discovery of a Pokemon Egg. Pokemon must be of the opposite sex and mated with a member of their kind or with an Idem, which can take the form of any Pokemon.

Even knowing this information and setting everything right, unfortunately, Legendary Pokemon cannot be spawned in Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield. Upon returning to kindergarten after leaving a legendary breeding pair there for an appropriate amount of time (approximately 20 minutes), no eggs will be present and players will be told they "don't seem to want to play with each other".

This message is intended to illustrate incompatible breeding pairs, confirming that it is not possible to breed Legendaries in Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield. This is a common practice in the franchise, as extremely rare Legendary Pokemon wouldn't stay around that long if players could keep producing more. It might be unwelcome news, but try to be glad that your Legendary Pokemon will remain exactly that, rather than getting pretty mundane.
