How to defeat Captain Avarokk the Covetous in the Grasp of Avarice dungeon in Destiny 2

You have finally made it to the final boss in Grasp of Avarice. You sailed into the rusty depths, killed the giant ogre, and slashed the giant fallen shield. The final encounter is simple, kill Captain Avarokk the Covetous and claim your hard-earned loot. While the boss may seem a little daunting at first, the encounter is actually relatively straightforward as it follows the mechanics that are seen throughout the dungeon.

Kill the minions of Avarokk

At the start of the encounter, you will immediately notice the appearance of two separate mini-bosses in the central platform. These Vandal and Shank mini-bosses have far less health than Avarokk and will need to be dealt with fairly quickly. We recommend using Gjallarhorn or Sleeper Simulant to quickly take out the Vandal and Shank mini-bosses. If you're quick enough, the Vandal mini-boss will drop some Burdened by Riches charges to make your harvesting process a little easier.

Release the engrams and charge the crystal

You've probably noticed the large crystal in the middle of the boss platform, and if you've made the previous several dungeon encounters, the crystal loads the same way. You will first need to kill the Vandel wandering around the arena with a Scorch cannon and collect said cannon. Then, he finds one of the three Fallen Batteries that are on and around the boss platform.

Once you find a battery, shoot it with a charged Scorch cannon shot to release Burdened by Riches engrams throughout the arena. It may be necessary to shoot the batteries more than once as the center crystal requires 60 charges of Burdened by Riches to start the DPS phase.

Do some damage

Once the DPS phase has begun, you will notice a distinct sound and a text message will appear on your HUD. Avarokk will also teleport to the back of the platform and will remain relatively stationary throughout the stage. Powerful normal DPS like Gjallarhorn, Sleeper Simulant, and 1000 Voices will work wonders here and should also be able to take out a boss stage with enough damage. Be sure to bring a Sorcerer with Well of Radiance or a Titan with Ward of Dawn to protect yourself from lesser enemies throughout the arena.
