The Pokemon Sword and Shield Crown Tundra expansion introduces a ton of new creatures to catch. Among them is the legendary bird Articuno, which now takes on a new type. However, this flying monster is as elusive as ever, causing players to be confused about how to catch Articuno. Here's how to find and capture this legendary beast.

How to catch Articuno in the crown tundra

Pokemon Crown Tundra | How to catch Articuno

To catch Articuno in the Crown Tundra, you must first find it. It is initially located near the Dyna tree at the southern end of the region. However, once spotted, it will fly away to a random location. Meet him again and he'll play a bad shot before you can actually fight him and catch him.

Here's how the process works. You have to go to the south side of the Crown Tundra and find Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos near the Dyna tree. Thereafter, the trio will split up, with Moltres and Zapdos heading to other locations in the Galar region.

Articuno itself will fly away, although no one knows where. Unfortunately, that means you'll have to look around for it. It shouldn't be too hard to spot and several players have reported finding it somewhere around Snowside Slope. Either way, keep your eyes peeled on your travels, especially towards the sky.

Don't fall for the trick

Once you find the creature, be prepared for deception. Approaching, Articuno will split into three: the real creature and two clones of itself. The clones will circle in an attempt to deceive you. You have to get close to the real Articuno to start the battle. If you choose the wrong one, Articuno will fly to another random location and you will have to start searching again.

Fortunately, there is an easy way to tell which one is the real one. Before the group begins its rotation maneuver, the real Articuno will briefly raise and lower its wings. It is a short animation, but it is distinct: otherwise the two clones will remain motionless. If you're having trouble locating it, try creating a save just before approaching. That way, if you're wrong, you won't have to look across the Crown Tundra to find it again.

Fight and capture Articuno

Once you have chosen the right Article, the fight will begin. Unlike its previous variants, the Crown Tundra Articuno is a physical / flying type creature. As such, Electric, Ice, Rock and Bug, Dark and Ghost type Pokemon will be the strongest against it.

Use one of these types, or just your most powerful creature, and you shouldn't have a problem winning the fight. This is especially true if you already have one of the Legendary Pokemon in Crown Tundra. After that, it's a simple case of catching Articuno and adding it to your ever-growing Pokedex.
